Leicester City Women have signed Scotland defender Leah Eddie on a three-year contract. The 25-year-old centre-back joins from Rangers and will train at Belvoir Drive ahead of the new Barclays Women's Super League 2 season, pending the completion of standard clearances.
Eddie brings significant experience from the Scottish Women's Premier League, where she has spent the last eight seasons. She began her senior career with Rangers in 2018 before a six-year spell at Hibernian, returning to Rangers in 2024. Last season, she made 27 appearances across all competitions and was named Rangers' Player of the Year for a second time, having previously won the award in her first stint at the club.
Eddie's career path
Born in Falkirk, Eddie developed at the Central Ladies Academy before her professional breakthrough. Her consistent performances earned her a Scotland debut in a 1-0 win over Northern Ireland in June 2021, and she now has six caps. In the 2023-24 campaign with Rangers, she played 23 matches and scored two goals as her side finished just two points behind SWPL champions Hearts.
Adding defensive strength
The move addresses a key area for Leicester City Women as they prepare for their upcoming campaign. Eddie's arrival adds a proven winner and a leader to the defensive line. "I’m really excited to get started," Eddie said. "I had a lot of conversations with the Club; I’ve seen the facilities and the way they are looking to push next season and that’s something I’d love to be a part of."
Her signing follows a positive start to the season for the Foxes, who won their opening match 1-0 against Sheffield United Women on 6 September.
What comes next
Eddie will now integrate with her new teammates at their Belvoir Drive training base. The defender is eligible to feature once her registration is fully processed, offering manager Willie Kirk a new option at the back. Her three-year deal runs until the summer of 2029, securing a long-term asset for the club's ambitions in the second tier.
