Leicester City Women's unbeaten start to the Women's Championship season is over after a narrow home defeat to Ipswich Town. A first-half goal from Bonnie Roe was enough to secure a 1-0 victory for the visitors on Saturday.
The result halts Leicester's perfect record, dropping them to third in the table with six points from three games. They had won their opening two fixtures against Sheffield United and Durham to sit near the summit. Ipswich, who also beat Leicester 3-1 in a pre-season meeting last month, executed a disciplined defensive plan to leave with the points.
Roe struck three minutes before half-time, finishing from a Georgie Timms assist to give Ipswich the lead. Leicester manager Willie Kirk made a triple substitution just after the hour mark, introducing Aimee Dennis, Lily Bance and Paige Pritchard in search of an equaliser. Jess Stapleton received a late yellow card for a foul as the hosts pushed forward, but they could not find a way through a resolute Ipswich defence.
With the international break now over, attention turns immediately to the next league fixture. Leicester return to action on Wednesday night when they host London City Lionesses at Farley Way Stadium.
